How to Take Care of Your Digital Camera

The best way to protect your investment is by taking care of it. Preserve your digital camera by applying the following tips:

Taking Care of the Lens

  • The lens of your digital camera is its eye to the outside world. It can be easily damaged through rough handling and scratches. Ensure that you never touch the lens directly with your fingers and make sure that you put on the lens cap or close the lens when you are not taking pictures.
  • Purchase a Camera Care Kit to properly clean your lens and keep your display screen free of smudges and fingerprints or take it to your local foto source store for cleaning.

Temperature and Storage

  • Store your camera at room temperature in a dry place. Do not leave your camera in extremely hot temperatures (such as in a car or out in the sun) or in cold temperatures either. Temperature fluctuations can cause condensation.
  • Keep it away from magnets of any form as this can affect the circuitry of your digital camera.
  • Remove your batteries if you are planning to store your camera away for a longer period of time to prevent corrosive leaks that can occur over time.

Protect Components

  • Properly protect your camera and your components by storing them in a suitable protective case or belt pouch.
    • If you have a digital compact, ensure that your case has a secure belt loop and a zip or Velcro closure. A pocket is also handy for storing spare memory cards and batteries.
    • If you have a DSLR, purchase a suitable size case (to fit your camera and accessories) that’s rainproof with a zip closure to keep out dust, sand and snow.

Take care of your camera and it will last you a very long time.

Maple Festival in Plessisville, Quebec

Plessisville is located in the Bois-Francs region, 185 km from Montreal and 95 km from Quebec City. It has hosted the annual Maple Festival since 1958. Over the years, the Maple Festival has become the second oldest festival in Quebec, after the Winter Carnival.

The municipality of Plessisville is surrounded by a prosperous maple plantation and has eventually become known as the World’s Maple Capital in 1976. This year, the Maple Festival will be held from Friday, May 1st to Sunday, May 3rd, 2009.

Every year, hundreds of tourists visit the sugar camps and experience the syrup making process. Technology and research allow for the fabrication and distribution of certified, quality maple products to more than 35 countries and five continents. As a result, the economic impact of syrup making and the many maple activities in the region is considerable.

Since the city of Plessisville is located in the Appalachians, there are many mountains, lakes and rivers to be discovered nearby. It’s a wonderful environment for those who love outdoor activities and nature. One can enjoy downhill or cross-country skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, water sports or bike riding alongside the spectacular Bois-Francs bike route.

Aperture

The aperture is the opening of a camera lens through which light passes. The aperture opening acts like a pupil letting light in. It is also known as an F-stop. The smaller the F-stop, the larger the opening causing more light to pass through.
